What you get
Encrypted all the way
Both your login and your files are encrypted between your computer and the server. That is why we offer SFTP and SSH, not unencrypted transfers.
SSH keys
Add your public keys in the control panel and log in without typing a password. Remove a key when a computer should no longer have access.
Your own tools
Use the terminal for git, WP-CLI and rsync, or an app such as FileZilla to move files with drag and drop.
How to get started
Find the connection details
Open SSH/SFTP in the control panel. It shows the server name and username for your web hosting.
Add your key
Paste your public SSH key and give it a name you will recognise. The private key stays on your own computer.
Connect
Log in with SSH in the terminal, or set up an SFTP connection in your app with the same details.
Good to know
Encrypted connections only
We offer SFTP and SSH, not plain FTP. If you use an older app, choose SFTP as the protocol in its settings. Most apps support it. To upload a single file, you can also use the file manager in the control panel, right in your browser.

Questions and answers
Should I use a key?
We recommend it. An SSH key is far harder to guess than a password, and you add and remove keys yourself in the control panel.
Can I use WP-CLI and git?
Yes. Once you are logged in with SSH, you can use the command line tools on your web hosting, such as WP-CLI for WordPress and git for your code.
Can I use plain FTP?
Use SFTP. It is encrypted and works in most apps that can transfer files.
Can my web designer have their own access?
Yes. Create an extra file transfer user in the control panel, or give access as a guest user, so you never have to share your own login.
