Domain extension
.net domains
.net is a generic extension (gTLD) under ICANN’s rules, and the registry is Verisign. Here is the price at Sitewig, the rules that apply to the extension, and how to register or transfer the domain.
Register a .net domain
Search for your name and see straight away whether it is available as .net. If it is taken, we show you other extensions.
.net prices
| Registration | €17.21 first year |
|---|---|
| Renewal | €12.90 per year |
| Transfer to Sitewig | Free (€0) |
| Restore | €71.94 |
- Registration costs more than renewal, so renewals are cheaper.
- Transferring your domain to Sitewig is free.
- Restore is the price of getting an expired domain back while the registry’s redemption period is running.
Prices include 23% VAT for private customers in Ireland. Businesses with a valid EU VAT number pay no VAT (reverse charge).

- Generic extension: ICANN’s rules apply, including the Transfer Policy and the UDRP. The sponsoring registrar is Hosting Concepts B.V. (Openprovider), and Sitewig is not itself ICANN-accredited.
- Sitewig provides the domain as a reseller for the accredited registrar Openprovider, and the domain is registered in your name as the registrant.
How to register a .net domain
- 1
Search for the name
Type the name in the search field and we show you right away whether it is available as .net.
- 2
Choose a plan or just the domain
Add the domain to your basket together with hosting or an email plan, or order the domain on its own.
- 3
Enter your details and pay
The domain is registered in your name as the registrant. Your details must be correct and kept up to date, and the whole period is paid when you order.
How to transfer a .net domain to Sitewig
- 1
Unlock the domain at your current provider
Switch off the transfer lock and get the auth code (also called the EPP code).
- 2
Order the transfer at Sitewig
Choose to transfer a domain when you order, and enter the .net domain and the auth code.
- 3
The registry completes the transfer
The transfer follows the registry’s rules, and the domain stays registered in your name.
- The transfer is free (€0).
- Under ICANN’s rules, a .net domain cannot be transferred for 60 days after registration or the last transfer.
- If you later want to move the domain away, we hand over the auth code or complete the transfer within 5 days, unless the registry’s rules prevent it.
Renewal and expiry
- The domain renews automatically for 1 year at a time unless you switch automatic renewal off.
- We send reminders about 30 and 7 days before expiry and again within 5 days after expiry if the domain has not been renewed.
- Domains are not covered by introductory offers or the 30-day guarantee.
- If the domain is not renewed, it expires and the registry’s rules on grace period, restore and deletion apply. Once the domain has been deleted, others can register it.
- Many generic extensions have a redemption period of 30 days.
Look up a .net domain
See whether the name is registered, with which registrar and when it expires. We only show the registry’s technical data, never owner details.
The lookup goes to the registry’s RDAP service, which we find via IANA.
