Questions about transfers
How long does a transfer take?
Usually from a few hours to about 5 days for .com, .net, .eu and similar. If your current provider approves the transfer quickly, it goes faster. You can follow the status in the control panel.
What is an auth code?
An auth code (also called an EPP code or transfer code) shows that you are allowed to transfer the domain. You get it from your current provider and enter it when you order the transfer at Sitewig.
Is my domain extended when I transfer it?
The transfer itself is free. Whether the expiry date moves is decided by the registry’s rules for the extension, not by Sitewig. The renewal price is in the price list.
Why can’t my domain be transferred right now?
Under ICANN’s rules, generic extensions such as .com, .net and .org cannot be transferred for 60 days after registration or the last transfer. The domain must also be unlocked at your current provider. Extensions such as .dk, .eu and .se do not have the 60-day rule.
Will my website go down during the transfer?
No, not if you prepare. During the transfer itself, the domain keeps its old name servers. Set up your website and mailboxes at Sitewig before the transfer completes, and everything switches over at once.
What happens to my email and DNS?
Once the transfer is approved, the domain gets Sitewig’s name servers, and we set up DNS, email and website the way you chose. If you have special DNS records at your old provider, note them down before the transfer so you can add them again with us.
Can I transfer a .dk domain to Sitewig?
Yes, but moving .dk domains is handled manually: contact support and we’ll help you. Write to support@sitewig.com or use the contact page.
