Automatic WordPress updates

Let Sitewig keep WordPress, plugins and themes up to date. With safe updates we take a snapshot before every update and roll back by ourselves if your website does not respond afterwards.

What you get

  • Less maintenance

WordPress security and bug fixes are installed automatically together with plugin and theme updates. You decide when to install new major versions.

  • A check after every update

After the update we check that the home page and login page respond correctly, plus up to three extra pages you choose, such as your contact page or basket.

  • Automatic rollback

If the website does not respond correctly, we roll files and database back to the snapshot and send you an email. The history shows every update and whether it went well.

How to get started

  1. Open WordPress updates

Find WordPress updates in the control panel and choose your WordPress website.

  2. Choose what to update

Turn on automatic updates. With safe updates you also choose whether the WordPress core, plugins and themes are included, and which extra pages are checked.

  3. Follow the history

The update history shows what changed. Rather not wait? Start an update right away with Update now.

Good to know

A rollback takes everything with it

If you roll back an update yourself, both files and database go back to just before the update. Orders, posts and comments added since then are lost. Big updates, such as a new major version of WooCommerce, are best tried on your staging site first.

Questions and answers

Can I turn it off?

Yes. You choose per website in the control panel and can always update manually in wp-admin.

What if an update breaks something the check misses?

Roll back from the update history or restore last night's backup. It is a good idea to check your most important pages yourself after big updates.

Is PHP updated too?

No. You choose the PHP version yourself for the whole web hosting. New versions of WordPress and plugins need newer PHP over time, so keep that up to date as well.
